Making the Switch - How Grin Natural is leading the way with providing better plastic alternatives for global consumers.
As announced by the New Zealand Government on 15th June 2023, New Zealand is making a splash in their move away from single-use plastics and guiding consumers towards better plastic alternatives.
Grin Natural is a company focused on providing consumers with sustainable and conscious alternatives within the oral care aisle, we’re pleased that this ban will continue to emphasise the importance of mindful consumption and encourage kiwis to think twice before purchasing.
This year [2023] in New Zealand we announced that we are transitioning all of our biodegradable toothbrushes (made from corn starch) to a 100% recycled material.
When we set out to launch our 100% Biodegradable Toothbrush, we were excited to be one of the first to release such a high quality, visually beautiful brush made from corn starch.
As industry leaders in sustainability, we are continually on the lookout for ways to pioneer this industry to new heights. We believe it’s our duty to fight for better solutions for our community, and the industry overall. After extensive research and working with industry experts, we realised that New Zealand’s commercial composting capabilities aren’t quite where they need to be to ensure our corn starch toothbrushes are disposed of correctly.
Therefore, we decided to make the switch to 100% recycled materials from this year. We’re starting this transition in NZ, with the hope to bring this change worldwide very soon in our continued efforts to improve our products.
Our 100% recycled toothbrushes are already available on shelf for customers to purchase via Chemist Warehouse NZ, Countdown, New World, and Pak n Save stores.
Our brushes look, feel and function as good as ever. We’re also continuing to improve and refine our ‘Back to Home’ Recycling Program, which enables our customers to send back their used brushes or other 100% recycled products purchased via our online store for free. Since establishing this programme over 4 years ago, we have successfully saved thousands of brushes from heading to the landfill. These products will continue to be recycled, extending the life cycle and preventing this product from heading to the landfill.
Grin is excited to continue to lead the way with providing more sustainable and higher quality products for our customers.
